- Where is the app after launch?
- Mates lives in the menu bar; it has no Dock icon unless you switch on Show in Dock. Look for its icon at the top right of the screen.
- How do I hide or show my companion?
- Press Control-Option-P, or use the menu bar icon.
- Does it get in the way of my clicks?
- Outside the Mate and its menu, clicks, drags and scrolling continue to the app underneath. Click a Mate or its menu to interact with it; your real pointer stays visible.
- How does the free pick work?
- New players choose one Mate for free and keep it. If you already claimed up to three free picks, those stay yours. Other Mates are one-time App Store purchases handled by Apple.
- I reinstalled or have a new Mac. Where are my companions?
- Open the menu bar icon, choose Mates, select Meet the Mates, then choose Restore Purchases.
- Refunds
- Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund from Apple.
- Does it need any permissions?
- None by default. The optional “Listens to sound” switch asks for the microphone and only measures loudness; nothing is recorded.
- How do I uninstall?
- Quit Mates from its menu bar icon and move the app to the Trash. Its progress stays in ~/Library/Containers/app.cursorpet; move that folder to the Trash too to remove everything.
- What does Start Over do?
- It resets your companion to the very beginning. The data stays in the app’s container on your Mac (~/Library/Containers/app.cursorpet) until you remove that folder yourself.
- Can my companion die?
- With care mode on, a baby or young companion whose needs stay empty runs out of health and starts again as an egg, keeping its name. Grown companions look after themselves. Away time can shift needs a little, but they will not run out of health while the app is closed or they are hidden.
