Privacy Policy

Mates has no account, analytics, advertising or in-app tracking. Apple handles App Store purchases and restores. The app does not send personal data to MouseTools.

To animate your companion it reads the pointer’s position, its shape, button presses and scrolling while it runs and is visible, and the size and place of other apps’ windows so it can stand on them (never their names or what is on the screen). Your companions’ progress, settings and Goo’s daily sketchbooks (the pointer paths Goo paints from) are stored only in the app’s own container on this Mac (~/Library/Containers/app.cursorpet). Hiding the companion stops all of this.

Two senses are optional. “Listens to sound” uses the microphone only while that switch is on and only to measure loudness as one number; nothing is recorded, kept or sent anywhere, and switching it off stops the microphone at once. “Notices typing” reads only how long ago the last key was pressed, never which key, so it needs no permission and cannot see what you type.

Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store; the developer receives no personal information about them. Moving the app to the Trash leaves its container behind; to remove everything it stored, also move ~/Library/Containers/app.cursorpet to the Trash.

This website

No third-party trackers and nothing loaded from other servers. The browser preview on the Mates page runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing.
